New Wedding Traditions – Trade in the Classics

A wedding is one of the biggest highlight of any individual’s life. Whether you are the bride or groom, there are a lot of dreams one has that are associated with your wedding day. Wedding trends have changed over the years rapidly and many brides and grooms prefer to follow new trends rather than the conventional ones. Here are some ideas for new traditions if you are looking to celebrate your marriage in a fun, novel way:

1)    Shendi: A “Shendi” is a fusion of the Shaadi and Mehendi and is fun new event that many people prefer to celebrate now. Instead of the traditional wedding event in which the bride and groom are greeted on the stage by everyone, this is the perfect way to celebrate your big day in a fun way. You can organize dances like people usually do on Mehendis and enjoy a night full of laughter and fun.

2)    Wedding Favours: Wedding favors are a western tradition we do not usually see in our culture. The closest thing that does come to them is the “Bidd” pouches which consist of sweets and dry fruits. Instead of the traditional pouches, you can include chocolates and maybe customized badges with the couples’ names on them. You could also include customized candles, soaps and other little odds and ends that will make your guests remember the wedding fondly.
3)    Honeymoon: Many couples nowadays do not go on a honeymoon right away. Instead, they choose to save up until a later time so that they can plan a much more elaborate get-away. Weddings are expensive and tend to weigh heavily on the pocket of the couple. This is why it is better to save up and go on a honeymoon later rather than go on one that is ill-planned and has budget constraints.

4)    Couple Videos: A lot of couples get a beautiful couple video shot for their wedding. Couples usually discuss ideas with the videographers and the entire video is planned well ahead of time so that it can be played on the day of the event. These videos are a great idea for couples who are tying the knot in an arranged marriage as it gives them a chance to bond, connect and get to know each other better.

5)    Wedding Presents: A new trend related to wedding presents is also on the rise. A lot of couples request their guests to donate to a charity they support instead of giving them a gift. This can be your little way of sharing your blessings with those who are less fortunate.
Traditions are a great way to stay close to your roots but it is always a good idea to add a little twist to them to make them even more memorable. Follow these ideas if you want to give your special day a delightful twist.
